Are You In Need of a Date-Cation?

ID-10044301

Sooooooooo, I’ve decided to take a date-cation! What does that mean? It means that I’m taking a break from dating (*moment of silence for my sanity!*). I know it’s going to be hard, but I think it’s necessary. I just want to work on developing myself so that I can enter into a functional relationship.

How did I know that I needed a date-cation? Well, I feel like I’m still connected to my ex (emotionally). And not in an ‘Oh my God, I want to kiss your face whenever I see it’ kind of way, but more like an ‘Oh my God, I want to stab your left eye and shove it into your right eye’ kind of way (hey! It gets like that sometimes!). Anywho, that’s an emotional connection that I need to resolve. Thus, the date-cation!

I think, we shouldn’t be so quick to date or hop into a relationship. Sometimes a break is necessary. How do you know when it’s time to take a date-cation? Here are a few things to look for :

  1. Recent Breakup. If you JUST got out of a relationship or serious date-tionship, then I’d recommend taking a break to really get yourself together. It’ll take some time to recover from heartbreak (unless you’re happy about it) and to discover what you want for yourself and from your next relationship.
  2. In Love All Alone. I think we’ve all experienced a relationship that was pretty one-sided; so one-sided, that the other person was completely unaware of it (Oh. No? That was just me?). Well, if you find yourself in a situation, where you’re holding on to a relationship that doesn’t really exist, I’d say go ahead and take that break. Something tells me your “lover” won’t be too heartbroken.
  3. Extra Baggage. No one wants to deal with extra baggage (Not even airlines. That’s why they’re charging all of these ridiculous check-in fees! But that’s neither here nor there). If you find yourself stuck on an ex, there’s no way that you can fully commit yourself to anyone else (except maybe Jesus). So clean out your closet, check in that extra baggage and get on that flight to your date-cation.
  4. Monkey See, Monkey Do. I know how discouraging it can be to watch your friends enter into relationships, while you sit around stuffing your face in front of a lifetime movie (just me again?). Well, that’s no excuse to hop on the first thing that comes your way. Allow time to work its magic. Your turn will come, just make sure that you’re ready for it.
  5. It’s Not What It Used To Be. Dating should be fun! If you find that it’s more of a headache than it is enjoyable, what’s the point?!!! Dating shouldn’t be a chore (unless of course you’re getting paid for it. Then we can make an exception πŸ˜‰ ). But don’t be afraid to take a step back, enjoy some time to yourself and emerge with a vengeance!

Now date-cations definitely aren’t for everyone! This is why I won’t be too proud to change my flight and return earlier than expected! Wish me luck!
