Always A Bridesmaid…Never A Bride

This weekend, one of my good friends (the one in the wedding dress) from high school got married to the love of her life. Throughout high school, her and her husband were distant friends who dated other people. It wasn’t until college that they started seeing each other on a serious level.

When she told me that they were together, it came as a complete surprise to me. In my mind, they were at opposite extremes of everything. However, as I became more familiar with their relationship and I saw them interact with one another, I knew that it was genuine love. The rest, as they say, was history!

Now, I am SO happy for them and I wish them a lifetime of happiness, but you guys already know that I’m about to steal the spotlight for a few seconds (aka the rest of this post).

*Grabs the mic – “Is this thing on?”*

Okay. So I was present at the wedding, not as a bride, not as a bridesmaid, but as a guest…a guest with no plus one! Yep, there I was, standing by the open bar (drink in hand), waiting for Prince Charming to come by with my missing Zara sandal and sweep me into a horse-drawn carriage. For whatever reason, that didn’t happen. I did, however, come to the realization that this will be the story of my life for a while (and not in that upbeat One Direction type way, but in that ‘oh crap, I’m going to be single for the rest of eternity’ type way).

I mean, I’m in my late twenties. All of my friends, family and strangers (yes, I’ve included strangers in my network) are getting married, having little demon spawn and moving into outrageously priced condos. And here I am, selfishly taking up their oxygen, H2O and space for myself. How rude of me!

But I can’t control any of this. All I can do is make sure that I just keep swimming, just keep swimming and one day, I’ll find Nemo…and he’ll be in a fish bowl, in the home of my future baby daddy. The end.

And let’s not forget the BEAUTIFUL bride …
